EDUCATION

Dr. Kam Kassiri earned a bachelor’s degree in pharmacology and a master’s degree in neuroscience from the University of Toronto. He went on to obtain his medical degree from the University of Manitoba before completing his residency in ophthalmic surgery at the University of Alberta. His academic excellence, both in medical school and research, was recognized through numerous scholarships during his training.

 

REFRACTIVE EXPERIENCE

With over 14 years of clinical expertise in advanced refractive surgery, Dr. Kassiri is among the most experienced and well-respected refractive surgeons in Western Canada. He has performed more than 65,000 ocular procedures, including LASIK eye surgery, refractive lens exchange (RLE), intraocular collamer lens (ICL) implantation, and refractive cataract surgery.

Dr. Kassiri currently holds surgical privileges in the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Alberta. He co-founded Alberta Eye MD, one of the province’s top ophthalmic clinics, and currently serves as medical director for both LASIK MD and King LASIK, leading refractive surgery centers in Edmonton.

Throughout his career, Dr. Kassiri has trained with some of the world’s most renowned ocular surgeons. He has led a comprehensive ophthalmology practice for over a decade and is one of the few vision correction surgeons offering a full spectrum of refractive procedures. Dr. Kassiri is dedicated to utilizing the latest technologies and techniques in cataract and refractive surgery to provide his patients the best possible outcomes.

Dr. Kassiri also has a keen interest in keratoconus, a corneal disease. He is one of the few surgeons in Western Canada with over 12 years of experience in performing Topography-Guided Custom Ablation Treatment (TCAT) in combination with Corneal Collagen Cross-Linking (CXL) for patients with keratoconus.

 

ACCOMPLISHMENTS AND AWARDS

Dr. Kassiri’s excellence in ophthalmology is reflected in the numerous awards and scholarships he has earned, including surgical scholarships from the Eye Foundation of Canada and the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR). He has also been invited to present at many national and international medical conferences, including those hosted by the Canadian Ophthalmological Society (COS), and has been published in the Canadian Journal of Ophthalmology.

His other achievements include developing a patented device for use in strabismus surgery, which won Canada’s top engineering award in 2009. Dr. Kassiri is also a respected surgical and clinical teacher, recognized by seven surgical and mentorship awards to date. He co-directs the ophthalmic optics review course offered to all ophthalmology residents in Alberta.
