Dr. Kam Kassiri

EDUCATION

Dr. Kam Kassiri completed his bachelor’s degree in pharmacology and then went on to achieve a master’s degree in neuroscience at the University of Toronto. Dr. Kassiri acquired his medical degree from the University of Manitoba and completed his residency in ophthalmic surgery at the University of Alberta. His excellence in both medical school and research is highlighted by numerous scholarships during his medical training.

REFRACTIVE EXPERIENCE

Upon finishing his residency, Dr. Kassiri received surgical training from some of the world’s most renowned surgeons and is committed to using the latest technologies and techniques in cataract and refractive surgery. He has a keen interest in the corneal disease keratoconus and is one of only a handful of surgeons in the province who has completed training for the keratoconus treatment Corneal Collagen Cross-Linking (CXL) plus laser.

In addition to his work at King LASIK, Dr. Kassiri is on staff at the University of Alberta, leading a comprehensive ophthalmology practice, and he is involved in teaching both undergraduate medical students as well as ophthalmic surgery residents.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS AND AWARDS

Dr. Kassiri’s extensive ophthalmological research is underlined by the numerous awards and scholarships he has received over the years, including surgical scholarships from the Eye Foundation of Canada and the Canadian Institute of Health Research (CIHR). He also presented at numerous national and international medical conferences, and has been published in the Canadian Journal of Ophthalmology. His other achievements include a patented device he developed for use in strabismus surgery, for which he took the top engineering award in Alberta as well as the top award in mechanical engineering in Canada in 2009.
